The 4L80E transmission was first brought to the masses in the year 1991 and served as an alternative for the highly popular TH400 transmission. Some new features were added to the 4L80E that were not present in the TH400, some of these were electronic controls, lock-up torque converter, and overdrive capability. Fun fact: It was created by General Motors. This transmission saw its use in the heavy-duty applications for almost all the GMC and Chevrolet trucks. That includes the Tahoe, Suburban, and also the Avalanche.
