Why Ford C4 Is Still a Preferred Choice In Transmissions

Originally introduced in the year 1964, C4 racing transmission by Ford Motor Company was one of the most widely used transmissions at its time. The transmission was specially designed for smaller and less powerful cars and it replaced the then outdated cast-iron MX and FX automatic transmissions, also known as Ford-O-Matic. Although the transmissions were discontinued by Ford in the year 1982, because of their light weight, simplicity, adaptability, and low cost, Ford C4 transmissions are still very popular among drag racers, hot rodders and restorers. If you do not wish to spend a lot of money on rebuilding a modern automatic transmission, you can buy and use C4 transmissions as they can be rebuilt to suit the needs of a specific vehicle at a much lower price.

If you are looking for medium-duty, three speed racing transmissions, Ford C4 is a good choice. But, if you want a transmission with a little more modification, a lock-up clutch, or aluminum construction, you can go with C5. If you are a huge fan of C4 and only want to use that transmission but concerned about low performance or poor gas mileage, relax! There are online stores where you will easily find C4 level 2 transmissions with torque converters and overdriven gears, which significantly increase fuel efficiency. You don’t have to worry about the quality of the transmissions as they are custom-built by master techs from start to finish and then DYNO tested to ensure that they are in perfect operating condition before they reach your facility.
